In English, we have been looking at Limerick Poems. We have read through lots of examples and looked at the specific features of a Limerick Poem. In small groups we then began working together to write our own Limerick Poem. We had to make sure we followed a specific pattern and make sure that certain lines rhymed with each other.

The children had some fantastic ideas and were able to create some excellent poems. The children in their groups then performed their poems to the rest of the class.

Well done Year 4! You have worked really hard this week!

Article 28: All children have the right to an education.

This week in PE we had an activity where the children had to watch a video of a game being played. The children then had to write down the instructions and equipment from the video to be able to rein act the game themselves in small groups.

The children worked really well as a team where they communicated and decided between each other how the rules of the game were played.

All the children loved the competition between the attackers and defenders. It was fantastic to see all children joining in and having fun.

Year 4 have been developing their catching and throwing skills. We focused on catching and throwing the ball in different ways. This included underarm, overarm, chest pass, bounce pass, one handed and two handed. We also thought about how to pass the ball in different ways: hard, soft, high, low.

Year 4 have been developing the skills to throw accurately. They needed to look at the target and attempted to throw the ball in the hoop in the middle of each pair. We started far away from the hoop but if we used our throwing skills accurately and got the ball or bean bag in the hoop, we could take one step towards it. The winner in the pair was the first person to get to the hoop. We played the game again to develop confidence, focusing on the skill of accurately aiming.

Today in class, we focused on our joined-up handwriting, tying it in with our Year 4 spellings. The children were fantastic at remembering the correct writing position, which really helped improve their letter formation. It was great to see everyone engaged and making progress. As we continue to practise, we encourage parents to support this at home. Let’s keep up the excellent work together!

This week, Year 4 have been diving into the intriguing world of Ancient Greece! The children have been busy researching and learning about everyday life during this fascinating period. They explored various topics, including education, trade, food, and the roles of women in society. Through group discussions and engaging activities, the students have gained a deeper understanding of what life was truly like in Ancient Greece. They’ve enjoyed examining artefacts online and comparing ancient practices to our lives today. We’re excited to see how their newfound knowledge will inspire them in future lessons!

This week, 4T were introduced to their exciting D&T topic all about bread! We had a fantastic time making our very own garlic bread, using the bridge cutting technique to slice into our baguettes. This allowed us to tuck in our homemade garlic butter, which was simply delightful. The children really impressed me with how safely they worked and how they shared responsibilities amongst each other. A few of the little chefs excitedly shared that they baked their bread at home, expressing just how delicious it turned out!

What a delightful day we had during our D and T lesson on making bread! Firstly, we spent the morning weighing and mixing our ingredients before kneading the dough. While it rose, we got stuck into our Maths lesson. In the afternoon, we moulded the dough into various shapes like buns, baguettes, knots, or plaits. Once baked, they turned out fantastic! The children absolutely loved the taste of their creations, and I must commend their excellent behaviour and superb listening skills throughout.

WB 02.12.2024

4H had lots of fun in our Design and Technology, food and nutrition lesson, when we made cornbread muffins. We weighted and mixed the dry ingredients in one bowl and the wet ingredients in another bowl. Then we mixed them together and placed the mixture into muffin cases and cooked them.

L.O. To develop knowledge of major rivers and their features.

We used an atlas to name and locate some river in Europe. Then we investigated what countries these rivers were in and where they flowed to, using atlases to help us.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share how fantastic the children have been during our cooking lessons this half term. They’ve really got stuck in, taking turns measuring ingredients and working independently on their tasks—impressive teamwork! This week, we made corn muffins, and the children were so curious about our ingredient choices, especially using corn meal instead of flour. I hope they’ve been excited to share their delicious creations with you at home! It’s been a joy watching their culinary skills develop. Thank you for your continued support!

Hello everyone! This half term, we’ve been diving into the vibrant world of Bollywood dancing, focusing on specific moves and developing our own unique sequences. We’ve enjoyed working in pairs and small groups before coming together as a whole class. Each section of our dance routine was different: from partner mirroring to small group sequences, finishing with an incredible performance in five rows. It’s been such great fun, and everyone got involved! Well done, Year 4!

LO: To understand the events in the Christmas story.

Year 4 had fun learning in a creative way when the storyteller -Elizabeth Baker, told the events in the Christmas story in a creative workshop called ‘A Christmas Memory Bead’. Elizabeth used beads to represent events in the Christmas story and for each event the children added a bead to their own string and at the end they had created their own Christmas memory Bead.

What a fantastic Science lesson we had exploring electricity! The children were buzzing with excitement as they set about creating their own simple circuits using the various pieces of equipment laid out before them. Each group demonstrated creativity, ensuring that no two circuits were alike. The joyful sound of the buzzer ringing out when their circuits were complete brought huge smiles to their faces. It was wonderful to witness their enthusiasm and curiosity come to life!

The potato character creations were brilliant and sparked lots of creativity. We also took part in the BBC Big Live Word Book Day event, which made reading even more exciting! We made our own Timothy Tiger bookmarks and played fun quizzes that kept everyone involved. It was a wonderful celebration of books and stories that the children will remember!

What a fun and engaging lesson we had today! Our primary focus was entering data into the correct fields on a database, which is always a useful skill. We started off by examining a delightful clown image, and the students had to record relevant data about it into the database. It was fantastic to see everyone applying skills from previous lessons, such as opening and creating documents, as well as saving them properly. It’s amazing to witness their growth and confidence in using these digital tools. Overall, it was a productive session that really brought some colour to our computing skills!

One of our English lessons this week was quite an adventure! We delved into our text, ‘The Grim Ghost’, focusing on specific vocabulary that really brought the story to life. The children initially found it a bit tricky to navigate through dictionaries, but once we got the hang of it, they were absolutely brilliant! We selected words directly from the text and worked on our dictionary skills, learning how to locate meanings and spellings efficiently. It was lovely to see their confidence grow as they began to understand how to use these invaluable resources properly. Overall, it has been a delightful and educational experience!

What a delightful lesson we had on sewing this week! After creating our wall hangings and using fabric pens to embellish them with our line drawings, it was finally time to bring them to life with a bit of stitching. As we began, the children eagerly threaded their needles, tying knots with a touch of concentration – and perhaps a bit of initial confusion!

There were certainly some challenges; threading these tiny needles can be a tricky task, and remembering to stitch from the front to the back (and not over the top) was a bit of a brain teaser for some. However, I was absolutely thrilled to see everyone managing to overcome these hurdles and giving it their very best. The joy on their faces as they completed their pieces was priceless. They were so pleased with their efforts, and rightly so!

In maths last week, we had a fantastic practical lesson all about money! The children ventured to our classroom shop to buy various items, which was not only fun but also quite eye-opening. They had to carefully count their coins to ensure they had the correct amount for their purchases, and many were brave enough to ask for change when needed. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm shine through; their faces lit up with excitement! The use of practical equipment really made a difference, reinforcing their understanding in a hands-on way.
